FRC #5648 Melbourne RoboCats had an incredible year with being able to design, build, and create an amazing robot to compete at the Southern Cross Regional event in Windsor South, Sydney (March 15th 17th,2024). The girls aspirations are to inspire, encourage and empower young girls/women in STEAM in the community, collaborate with other STEM clubs/teams, our industry mentors and sponsors/stakeholders to continue to spread this amazing sport throughout Australia. Team 5648 Melbourne Robocats was awarded the 2024 Team Spirit award for their resilience, Gracious Professionalism, and bouncing back from the challenges the team faced in 2023, and designing and building an awardwinning robot that is highly competitive, whilst keeping a positive attitude. The judges were really impressed by Team Melbourne RoboCats and gave the following feedback… Team 5648 s perseverance to bounce back from the dissolution through enacting real structural changes in the team is admirable. This was a stand out example of the determination and energy required to face the unexpected challenges that are often a part of realworld problem solving. This story resonated with the judges, and we are confident that this will have a positive impact on the culture within the team moving forward. Well done and we look forward to hearing of your ongoing success! After this wonderful success at the Australasian event, the team of 15 girls continued to work on their robot making many iterations. The Team also was able to attend the OffSeason event 2024 Melbourne Robotics Tournament. The RoboCats team were inspired to do even better at the MRT 2024 event, where they commenced work on new enhancements to the robot eight weeks prior to the MRT event. The Melbourne RoboCats was successful with the new enhancements where they qualified for Finals and were awarded by the Judges, the 2024 Melbourne Robotics Tournament Team Spirit Award. On Thursday 21st March 2024, Team 5648 Melbourne RoboCats were invited by the F1 Australian Grand Prix Committee for an Outreach event to showcase our robot at the F1 AusGP event, to create awareness in the wider community about the Future of Girls in STEM & Engineering. The AGPC were very impressed and happy with the feedback from McLaren Team and their Drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Please see their comments we are thrilled you enjoyed it and honestly you should be so proud of the girls they conducted themselves so wonderfully. They were the perfect balance of excited and high energy but also amazing knowledge and bright shining beacons of women in STEM!! In addition to reaching more girls at the F1 event, the RoboCats Team were invited to exhibit at the EduTech Expo which is Australia’s premier event for education and EdTech, to showcase young women in STEM. This was highly successful with schools that attended, as they were inspired to send their students to join the team, growing the awareness of Girls in STEM.
