Era Surf Life Saving Club Incorporated
The Club s core activities include the provision of Surf Life Saving (SLS) and other Emergency Services at Era Beach and along the adjacent coastline of the Royal National Park. Ensure that members meet Surf Life Saving Australia standards and that services are delivered by qualified and proficient volunteers. Promote and conduct inclusive training courses, diverse development activities along with competency assessments. Ensure that operations, events and social activities are conducted in a safe manner. With the health restrictions of the previous seasons no longer in place, the 202223 season was all about demonstrating that the Club is open for business and undertaking a full range of activities, in our 85th year of operation. In the challenging environment that the Club operates in, three years of disruption could not be turned around in a single season. Compounding the situation, the Garie Road remained closed all year, prompting a different approach to transport supplies and equipment in and rubbish out. A helicopter was used and was successfully opened up to the wider Cabin Communities of Era and Burning Palms. Junior training and other Nipper activities resumed in earnest, although the District Carnival to be hosted by Burning Palms was cancelled at the last minute. Membership eased to 212, within which patrolling member numbers remained constant. The Garie Road closure forced the cancellation of the Era Ocean Swim event, for the second year. The efforts of two long serving members were acknowledged at the Sydney Branch Awards of Excellence, when Treasurer Patrina Howe was awarded Administrator of the Year and Cameron Watson, Patrol Captain of the Year. Great outcomes given that other Sydney Clubs have a member base up to ten times Era s. On the beach visitor numbers were up, resulting in more rescues and First Aid. The rate of change season on season is increasing with 202324 season expected to bring a new set of challenges. With a strong membership and financial base, along with an experienced management committee the Club is well placed to continue to fulfil community and Association expectations in the delivery of rescue and emergency services.
