JURU ENTERPRISES LIMITED
Juru Enterprises Limited (JEL) continues to deliver projects that protect, restore, and sustainably manage Juru Country encompassing coastal, marine, and wetland ecosystems of cultural, environmental, and economic significance to the Juru People. Our charitable purpose is to care for Country, preserve cultural heritage, and provide employment, training, and economic opportunities for Traditional Owners through meaningful land and sea management. During the reporting period, JEL undertook a range of environmental and cultural management activities, including: Wetland and Coastal Rehabilitation: Implemented weed control, revegetation, and erosion management programs across key Jurumanaged areas such as Bowen, Abbot Point, and Cape Upstart. These activities supported the recovery of native plant species, improved habitat for wildlife, and enhanced waterway health. Turtle Protection and Marine Monitoring: Supported turtle nesting protection, beach monitoring, and data collection in collaboration with local partners and Traditional Owners. This ensured the continued protection of significant marine species and promoted stewardship of sea Country. Fire and Land Management: Conducted cultural burns and fuel reduction programs to protect biodiversity, cultural sites, and surrounding communities. These burns incorporated Traditional ecological knowledge alongside modern fire management practices. Cultural Heritage Preservation: Worked with archaeologists, rangers, and Elders to identify, protect, and maintain culturally significant sites and story places within Juru Country, ensuring that traditional knowledge and cultural practices are respected and passed on to future generations. Training and Employment: Provided onCountry training and employment opportunities for Juru People and local Indigenous workers, building capacity in conservation, biosecurity, and environmental management fields. Partnerships and Collaboration: Continued strong partnerships with regional stakeholders including North Queensland Bulk Ports (NQBP), Queensland Government agencies, and local councils, aligning Juruled land management with regional conservation and sustainability goals. These activities have resulted in measurable environmental improvements such as reduced invasive weed spread, improved native vegetation cover, and enhanced biodiversity resilience. They have also created sustainable pathways for Traditional Owners to engage in environmental and cultural governance. Through this work, JEL directly advances its charitable objectives by combining traditional knowledge with modern land management to care for Country, protect heritage, and empower the Juru community. Our efforts ensure that Juru Country remains healthy, respected, and productive for future generations.
