Sandon Point Surf Life Saving Club Incorporated
The Club s core activities namely the provision of Surf Life Saving (SLS) and other Emergency Services at Sandon Point Beach and along the adjacent coastline are unchanged from previous years. Ensure that members meet Surf Life Saving Australia standards and that services are delivered by qualified and proficient volunteers. Promote and conduct inclusive training courses, diverse development activities along with competency assessments. An upsurge in visitations by families to the beach resulted in an increase in lifesaving, competition, and community activities. Patrols were busy looking after swimmers along the full length of the beach. Nipper and training activities grew to new heights. The number of functions staged at the Club decreased due to planned Clubhouse building work. The Club was open every Sunday afternoon from October to May, providing opportunities for members, along with the local community to interact, which in turn attracted new members and strengthened the Club s financial position. At the start of year, the Club was awarded a $307,000 Facilities Grant from NSW Department of Sport to extend the upper level deck. Construction was planned for the off season however delays in obtaining a Construction Certificate has pushed this out to the last quarter of calendar 2024. The initial drawdown of funds has enhanced the Club s financial performance, ahead of the work being undertaken. Despite increased numbers on the beach rescues decreased, while preventative actions grew. Overall membership climbed to 615. Members completed the full spectrum of training awards, with good numbers gaining their Bronze Medallions, Surf Rescue Certificates, First Aid Certificates, IRB Crew. Nipper numbers increased 8% to 310. By the end of the season 26 had graduated after gaining their Surf Rescue Certificate and became active patrol members. A growing number of members represented the Club at local, Branch and State level carnivals. The 202425 season is sure to bring a new set of challenges. With a strong membership base and competent management committee the Club is well positioned to continue to fulfil community and Association expectations in the delivery of rescue and emergency services.
